The Young Fishers

The Young Fishers, AnnaSophia Ledwell MacInnis, graphite on paper.

This is a drawing of my mother, Jane, and my uncle, Patrick, from a photograph taken of them when they were children. It was drawn as a gift for my grandmother. I chose this reference image because there was a lot of variety in the shading and because there was a lot of motion of fabrics and textures. I also wanted to convey the feeling of childhood innocence. The kids are so proud of the fish they have caught, even though they are so tiny. I prefer to draw pictures that are connected to family, friends, and people and places with meaning to me.
