Secret Sentiments, Aylin Kohan, photography.

I wanted this certain photograph to feel like a physical manifestation of certain feelings, more specifically those which we are taught to not talk about, such as sadness, longing, etc, etc. Emotions are a very significant part of life but are usually discarded due to being called “unproductive, distracting and destructive”. However, I believe it is the unhealthy repression of emotions which causes such things. The colour blue is used because it is a colour which feels comforting and sad at the same time; it is also a perfect contrast to the overall colour of the picture, which looks somewhat faded, yellow and grainy. I wanted the picture to look like that in order to give it a sense of nostalgia, because emotions are indeed highly connected to memories. The flowers are also reminiscent of my other art piece, “Balance”, because I wanted the two projects to feel connected.
