This artwork pushed me to think outside of the box. I had to use scraps of paper to create something unique. I was drawn to the pretty pages covered in feathers; the feathers made me think of birds, which we often see as commonplace and uninteresting, yet listening to the birds sing in the morning is beautiful and always fills me with joy. I then made the bird the center of the piece, drawing the bird in a simple way, and focusing on the line work. I carefully arranged the scraps of papers alongside pages from an old dictionary (each page with definitions of birds, flying, and feathers), and I attached the bird in a way that allowed the wings to move, making it interactive, similar to the life seen in a bird. This artwork shows the beauty of birds and it all started by seeing the beauty in simple feathers.
