Barleen Marar

Grade 11, Renert School, AB

I am a self-taught artist who is inspired by pop culture and the way it interacts with an individual's identity. I firmly believe that while pop culture is entertaining, it has an impact on the way we perceive ourselves and life. While appreciating the beauty behind classical and Renaissance art, I enjoy using more modern styles such as Hyperpop and Pop art, to convey my messages. I use classical techniques but put a modern twist on it. Inspired by artists such as Hirohiko Araki, and the iconic Shibuya Crossing, I was motivated to create the piece you see before you today. Although I'm a passionate traditional artist, I am now taking steps to learn more about digital art. Since digitalization is the way of the future, with AI art and various other programs being released, I am pushing myself to overcome my boundaries in art. My ultimate goal is to present the beauty and complexity of pop culture and its influence on multiple aspects of an individual's life.
